"If the photographer is interested in the people in front of her lens, and if she is compassionate, it's already a lot. The instrument is not the camera but the photographer." -Eve Arnold
Photographing people is my passion. Anyone can take a photo of a lake or a building, but not just anyone can capture a person's essence, their being. Most of my best portraits to date have been accidents. I'll try just about anything hoping to "get lucky" with an image that resonates with my clients. The photo to the left is one of my all-time favorite photos and I it was a test shot. She had no idea I was about to push the shutter button. And yet, I caught what I consider to be one of the best images of her session. She was relaxed and not "trying". The purpose behind my portraits is not to produce a perfect image of what my subjects hope to look like. I want my images to show who my clients really are at their core. I work hard to get to know my clients so I can deliver photographs that are honest, raw, and moving. Every individual is unique, as is every photo session. For this reason alone, photographing people will always be my favorite pastime.
"To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place...I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them." -Elliott Erwitt
Lifestyle photography aims to tell the story of a people in an artistic manner and without words. I've always been a storyteller, leaving no detail untold. Every detail is just as important as another. I fell in love with journalistic photography in college when I was assigned to tell stories of ordinary subjects. Can I tell the tale of a day in the life at an animal shelter? Can I tell the story of a small town 5k race? The story is in the details, moments frozen in time depending on them to speak to the storyteller. Whether it be picking a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch, selecting and decorating the Christmas tree, a child's first birthday...I'd love to tell your story. It's kinda my thing.
"What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that's gone forever, impossible to reproduce." -Karl Lagerfeld
I've loved weddings ever since I was a little girl. There's just something magical about a wedding day. No award or recognition could make me feel the way I do when a bride and groom trust me, allowing me to tell the story of one of the most important days of their lives together. It is such a blessing to be able to give my clients their galleries, knowing they will see images they can't possibly remember or never even saw. My mission as a wedding photographer is to immortalize the exciting and often hectic moments of the day. From shots of the cake and the rings, to shots of Aunt Linda cutting a rug after one too many glasses of wine...I'm going to capture it all. My wedding photography encompasses several different styles. As stated above, I am a photojournalist at heart. I'm going to tell your story as seen through my eyes. I'm also a sucker macro photos of diamonds and flowers. Every detail must be captured. I know how important it is to get the perfect shot of the bouquet. While I'm recording the day, if I see the potential for an artistic shot, we're taking it. I'm also a fan of the classic style of wedding photography, making sure to get as many tried and true wedding day favorites,
